Dr. Dermot O’Connor
Dermot is a graduate of Otago University and has worked in Waikanae since 1988. He has two children, Joseph and Esther Rose. Dermot is a fellow of the Royal NZ College of GPs and his speciality is family medicine. Dermot is a keen swimmer, walker and bike rider and enjoys triathlons, tramping and travelling.
Dr. John Clarke
John graduated from Manchester University in the UK in 1992. He spent 8 years working as a GP in Blackpool before moving to New Zealand in 2006. John works as a full time GP and his specialty is family medicine, geriatric and dementia care and diabetes. He is a Fellow of the College of GPs. John is married to Jane and they have 4 children. He enjoys spending time with his family, working in his garden, playing masters soccer and skiing. John thoroughly enjoys the New Zealand way of life and enjoys working and living in the Waikanae community.
Dr. Diane Carter
Diane graduated from Otago Medical School in 1990. She worked in Palmerston North Hospital, then in England before returning to New Zealand to do her General Practice training. She is married to Dan and they have 4 children. Diane works part-time at Waikanae Health, as well as at Kapiti Youth Support in Paraparaumu.
Dr. Romain Kuhm
Romain grew up in the South of France and graduated from Grenoble University (at the foot of the French Alps). He spent 2 years in New Caledonia, working in a remote practice. Romain works as a full time GP and his particular interests include paediatrics, chronic illness and preventive care. During his leisure time, he enjoys hiking, playing tennis and traveling. Romain became a partner of the Health Centre in July 2017
Dr. Ram Das Naidu
Ram graduated from the National University of Singapore. He gained experience working in four hospitals and as a doctor in the Singapore Army. In 2009 he migrated to New Zealand with his wife. He had the privilege of working in the Waikato, Whangarei, Hutt and Wellington Hospitals. Blessed with two daughters, he enjoys cycling and gardening in his spare time. He has a special interest in orthopaedics and is working towards attaining a fellowship with the Royal New Zealand College of GPs.
Dr. Andrew Edwards
Andrew trained at Selwyn College Cambridge and St. Thomas' Hospital London, qualifying in 1987. After 5 years of hospital work in and around London, followed by GP training, he spent 4 years working in Nepal in a Community Health Programme, training local health workers. He moved to New Zealand in 2000 with his wife, Helen, and two daughters. Andrew’s medical interests include tropical and travel medicine, registrar and medical student training. Outside of work he plays soccer and tennis and attends a local church.
Dr. Anne-Christine Poracchia-Kuhm
Anne-Christine comes from France and is a graduate of Grenoble University. For the last 10 years, she has gained experience through her work at the hospital of Aix-les-Bains in France and in Noumea in respiratory disease (acute respiratory disease, cancer, COPD and asthma). She also worked as a family doctor in her own practice for 4 years, where she took care of patients from 2 weeks old to those over 90 years old. Anne-Christine is married and has 2 children. She enjoys walking, swimming and running.
Lynne moved out of the Nurse Manager position in March 2017 and handed over to Monika. She is assisting with the setup of the new beach clinic and quality assurance work in the practice. From April until July Lynne will also be overseeing the smooth running of the beach clinic.
Gail is an experienced Practice Nurse since 1990 and has been at Waikanae Health since 2005. Her skills include all areas of General Practice including health promotion, chronic and acute health problems. Gail has a special interest in emergency care. She enjoys working with Nursing Students to whom we offer placements at times throughout the year. Gail maintains a high level of education to ensure that her practice remains current and she incorporates her academic studies into her daily role.
Gail’s qualifications include NZRN Comprehensive, BN, PG Cert Health Sciences and Accredited Practice Nurse with Expert Endorsement.
Gael trained as a Registered Nurse in Wanganui in the final hospital-based class through the Wanganui Nursing School. She has been a Practice Nurse since 1989, most of which has been at Waikanae Health. Gael enjoys the mix of patients she sees here with both acute and chronic conditions. Outside of work Gael enjoys the lovely Kapiti Coast, walking the beaches, fishing, boating and reading. During her time here, Gael has had time out to have her 2 lovely daughters.
Gael has been able to change her hours to accommodate their needs over time.
Angela trained and registered as an Enrolled Nurse at Hutt Hospital in the late 70’s until leaving to start a family. She then worked as a swim instructor and became a professional swim coach for 14 years whilst raising her 3 boys. Angela returned to nursing in 1999 working in Wellington Hospital Main Outpatients Department covering Wellington, Kenepuru and Kapiti clinics mainly for neurosurgery, general surgery and vascular clinics. Whilst working in these areas Angela found a passion for wound
care and specialised in this area. In 2008 Angela joined Waikanae Health as a Clinical Support Nurse. She now works with the wound clinics, repeat prescriptions and warfarin management for our team of doctors. In her spare time Angela enjoys scrapbooking and loves to spend time outdoors in her garden.
Dr. Jared Cook
Jared grew up in the Wellington area. He trained as a GP in both Otago and in Wellington. Since then he has worked in New Plymouth Base Hospital, Whangarei and in Wanganui. Jared also worked as a rural GP in Bulls. He came to Waikanae Health in mid 2011. Jared’s interests are snow skiing and water skiing.
Jean (RN Comp) has been a Practice Nurse since 1994 and has been at Waikanae Health since 2007. She is interested in all aspects of Nursing and is currently our Mobile Nurse going out into the community to care for our patients.
Sue lives in Waikanae. Her nursing experience includes coronary and intensive care, rest home care and more recently occupational health, working in private enterprise companies and in injury prevention as an ACC programme manager. Sue has had breaks from nursing to set up and operate a cafe and to study fashion and design. Sue enjoys the beach environment, walking, swimming, fishing with family, biking, gardening and looking after the grandchildren Sue enjoys working with all ages and in helping
understand health issues such as diabetes. Sue works 3 days a week at Waikanae Health.
Hilary Krebs - Clinical Pharmacist
Hilary Krebs is a Clinical Pharmacist employed by Compass Health Primary Health Organisation (our PHO). Hilary has expertise in medication management and the GPs will refer patients to her for assistance with complex medication issues, particularly after a patient has been discharged from hospital where medications may have been changed. Hilary works at Waikanae Health on Monday mornings.
Haley completed her Bachelor of Nursing at Massey University in Palmerston North in 2011. She has previously worked in Older Adult Rehabilitation and Surgical wards in Kenepuru Hospital and has completed further study at Victoria University with an interest in Pharmacology. Haley has grown up on the Kapiti Coast and enjoys baking and swimming in her spare time.
Lyndsay completed her nursing training in Lower Hutt Hospital in 1971, and has remained in the Nursing profession ever since. During that time she has gained a wide range of experience in many areas. Lyndsay’s most rewarding and enjoyable nursing experience was more that 14 years as Clinic Nurse in Paediatric outpatients at Lower Hutt Hospital. She also very much enjoyed her time in Rheumatology, Breast Clinic and Aged Care. Lyndsay was employed by Waikanae Health in November 2015 as Clinical
Support Nurse and she is really enjoying the new challenge. In her spare time Lyndsay enjoys walking on the beach and spending as much time as she can with her 3 grandchildren.
Dr. Herman van Kradenburg
Herman is a partner at Waikanae Health (since 2001). He is South African trained, having qualified in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Pretoria. He also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Occupational Medicine (Univ. of Stellenbosch). His early career includes stints in Paediatrics, Paediatric Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery and also General and Vascular Surgery. Herman practiced in Cape Town as a General and Occupational Medicine Practitioner before coming to New Zealand.
His medical interests include respiratory and cardiac medicine, allergy and skin conditions, skin cancer treatment and surgery, occupational medicine, psychiatry, diabetes and endocrinology, paediatrics, women's health, sexual health and contraception, travel medicine, minor surgery, emergency management as well as burns and wound care. He enjoys participating in the practice's undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes, Herman is an ESR Accredited Alcohol and Drug Advisor, and can assist with workplace alcohol and drug screening, monitoring and testing. Herman is married to Jeanine and has three children. He is a keen nature lover, enjoying outdoor pursuits, particularly sea fishing, free and scuba diving, travel and bird watching.
Fran trained at Massey, and subsequently completed a Master of Nursing, graduating in 2016. She has done some contract work with Massey University as a CTA which entails assisting students whilst in their Mental Health Placement. Fran has completed over 6 years in Forensic Mental Health , then completed a brief period of leadership within the national youth forensic unit.
Dr. Will Huang
Will graduated from Otago University in 2004. Since then he has worked in Christchurch and Palmerston North Hospitals before becoming a GP in Christchurch in 2008. In 2010 he took up the opportunity to become a rural GP in Buller. During this time he completed a post graduate diploma in Health Informatics. He has completed his Skin Cancer College Accreditation with a Distinction in Dermoscopy. Will moved up to the Kapiti Coast in 2014 and now looks forward to providing healthcare at Waikanae
Health. Will has an interest in skin cancers and sports injuries. In his spare time he likes to swim, bike and run while thinking about motor sports, sustainability, and world peace.
Oksana was born and grew up in Russia. She graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing in Denmark in 2008. Since then she has been working in the area of Neuroscience and Neurorehabilitation. Oksana is involved in ongoing post graduate studies through Massey University. Her main interests are Diabetes and Nursing research. In her free time oksana is enjoying traveling, beach walks, swimming and dancing.
Michele trained at Massey university and was one of the 1st to complete her Bachelor of Nursing. She had 2 -3 years of practice nursing in Auckland answering calls from patients after hours. Recently Michele completed 8 years of orthopaedics. She has 1 child and lives in Waikanae.
Sara graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing in 1995. She worked at Wellington Hospital for ten years, her specialty areas being Neuroscience and Coronary Care. Sara has worked in Primary Health Care since 2002. Her special areas of interest are travel medicine, childhood vaccinations and emergency triage. Sara has been at Waikanae Health since 2008 and achieved Practice Nurse Accreditation in 2011. Sara is focused on keeping our community well and avoiding unnecessary hospital admissions.
Sara completed her Post Graduate Certificate in Travel Medicine in 2015.
Dr. Anouk Balster
Anouk graduated from the Catholic University of Leuven in Brussels. She did her GP training in Brussels in various GP Health Care Centres. She then worked as a GP in Brussels and some time in Mali. Before coming to New Zealand in 2018 she worked in New Caledonia for four years in a remote practice. Anouk enjoys family medicine as it allows her to get to know her patients and take care of diverse medical long and short term issues but also to focus on how to keep healthy.
She is married to Ivan and they have three children. Anouk likes to be out in nature. Tramping and sailing are her favourite activities.
Monika - Nurse Manager
Monika was born and grew up in Germany. She graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing in the year 2000. She has gained experience in trauma and vascular surgery as well as orthopaedics and oncology until following her kiwi husband to New Zealand. Since then Monika has worked with older adults in Correctional Health where she led a team of nurses and counselors until joining Waikanae Health in October 2017. In her free time Monika enjoys spending time with family, swimming and walking her dogs.
Dr. Maryanne Ting (Registrar)
Maryanne was born and raised in Palmerston North and has studied and worked around the hospitals in Auckland. She has chosen to train in General Practice for the continual relationships and varied work. She enjoys cooking, baking, bush walks, tramps, bird watching, movies and her new kittens. Maryanne is a keen but novice gardener and chicken owner, so any advice is much appreciated.
Dr. Hanna Preston (Registrar)
Hanna is a graduate of Otago University, and has recently returned to the Wellington Region to undertake specialist GP training. Since graduating (2012) Hanna has worked in hospitals in the Auckland region and Dunedin gaining experience in a range of specialties. Most recently she worked in Anaesthesia, but has now changed to General Practice as she wants to be more involved with her community. Outside of work Hanna enjoys spending time with her family, including her young son. She enjoys the
outdoors and social sports, including running, mountain biking and skiing.
Jutta was born and grew up in Germany, graduating with a Bachelor of Nursing in 1995. Jutta moved to New Zealand in 2003 and has worked in the aged care sector, specialising in Dementia and Alzheimers. Her background has been as Charge Nurse and Unit Coordinator leading a team of nurses and caregivers; until joining Waikanae Health in February 2018. In her spare time Jutta enjoys traveling, beach walks and spending time with family.
